About Prisley Chimney Sweeps
Prisley Chimney Sweeps started up in 1841 by Benjamin Prisley who was recorded on the 1841 census as a Master Chimney Sweep living in Swan Yard, Gravesend, Kent. Following Benjamin into the family business was his son Charles Henry Prisley, who unfortunately died at the age of 28 years from asthma and bronchitis, no doubt brought on from the work he did from an early age.
Henry’s widow Ann was left with 4 young children to support and so went on to marry Edward Wenban who was recorded as an employee of Prisley Chimney Sweeps.
Edward carried on the family business and it then stayed in the Wenban family and was taken on by Derek Wenban in 1989. Derek became ill in 1991 and his stepson Colin Treleaven then took over the business and is currently the proprietor.
